Warm Words for Diss Museum
Diss Museum has received a warm mention from the judges of the Art Fund Prize for Museum of the Year.
Manager Basil Abbott said, “There was no way we were going to win; but we had a very encouraging letter back.”
They said, “Although you were not short-listed on this occasion, the judges noted the ambition and success of the exhibitions and events programmed by the museum to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, cementing the important role that the Museum holds within the community.”
Last year there was an event called Over the Top, with dancers, musicians, a Spitfire flypast and a reading by ‘Herr Flick’ actor Richard Gibson of a World War One story.
The museum also obtained the funding and organised putting the missing names on the war memorial, as well as having wartime exhibitions.
