War Memorial Missing Names

With all the World War One commemorations in 2014 it will be a good time to add the missing names to the War Memorial.
Sunday 1st June is the proposed date, with some events going on. Not the obvious British Legion, poppies and Last Post – with all due respect to those – but some out-of-the-box things.
Norwich Early Dance Group, who appeared in the Skelton and Paine Festivals, have agreed to come and dance in the Market Place. They have picked up on the theme of the vanishing England that was swept away by the war.
In fact there are names from both wars missing from the stone. Criteria varied from place to place. We think that people were asked to pay in Diss. Some people could not afford it, while some found it too painful to have their son’s name displayed.
Some memorials contain civilian names. What about people who died in accidents? What about women?
We need to find out local criteria and decide what our own will be. We don’t want to leave anybody off again.
